  • Parliament House is nearly 180 years old but was never completed. To solve a long-standing accommodation problem a new Member’s Annexe was constructed in 2018 as a separate free-standing building within the eastern gardens of the Parliamentary precinct. The Annexe, which houses 102 members of parliament, has been linked back into Parliament House via a bridge, tunnel and laneway connections. The East Wing refurbishment project upgrades the internal circulation system within Parliament House, providing two new lifts and stairways serving all levels along with a new attic. The works had to be carried out in staged sequences to allow the parliament to continue its operations unimpeded.
