Founded in 1858, Melbourne Grammar School is one of the oldest denominational schools in Victoria. The South Yarra campus is immediately recognisable, with its fine collection of nineteenth century bluestone buildings and more recent contemporary architecture, set in generous and picturesque landscape grounds.
The music program at the School is located in multiple venues around the campus, with the main facility at the Myer Music Centre in Domain Street. Designed by architects Mockridge Stahle & Mitchell in 1960, the building is a fine example of mid-century modern architecture. The project involves refurbishing the Myer Music building, a former house at 3 Bromby Street and the construction of a new infill building to link the complex together. The music program is popular with students with increasing demand for high quality teaching, practice and rehearsal spaces, which this facility will now provide.
