Tram Shelters, Glenelg Line Extension

Adelaide

Client: Government of South Australia
Status: Complete 2009

Team: Taylor Cullity Lethlean with Peter Elliott Architects

This project involved the design of several new tram platforms and shelters as an extension of the Glenelg to City tram line. The platforms are well integrated into the premier civic streets of Adelaide adopting a central platform format.  The tram stops have a distinctive yellow beam spanning the length of the platform with cantilevered glass canopies providing shelter from the elements. The design was undertaken as a collaborative process involving the integration of architecture, urban design, landscape and industrial design.

“..you have contributed to a remarkably successful project…given my location at the Adelaide Town Hall, I have been able to bear witness as the tramline dramatically changed the face of this City’s most recognizable boulevard… your contributions have made a lasting impact on the City of Adelaide.”
