The Gourlay Building is the first major student residential building to be built at Trinity College since the early 1960’s. Trinity College occupies a splendid site fronting Royal Parade just north of Tin Alley and the University of Melbourne campus. The new building infills a compact re-entrant site formed by the blank ends of the Clarke and Behan Wings. The accommodation is mostly motel-style student suites along with a small number of apartments for resident and visiting scholars.
“Three Wardens and forty years after it was first discussed Trinity has a new residential wing, the John and Louise Gourlay Family Building made possible by the generosity of the Gourlay family.”Trinity College, Today newsletter 2005
