    Adjunct Professor Peter Elliott AM

    Peter Elliott is a Melbourne architect who commenced practice in 1975. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Art Design & Architecture at Monash University. In 2015 he was awarded a Doctor of Architecture honoris causa by the University of Melbourne. He has a special interest in the design of the public realm, and has lectured and written extensively on contemporary architecture and urban design. In 2015 he authored a monograph book titled “Episodic Urbanism – RMIT Urban Spaces Project 1996 – 2015’ published by URO Publications.

    The work of the practice has won more than 70 National and State architectural and industry awards. This includes an Order of Australia in 1987 for services to architecture (public housing), the RAIA Victorian Architecture Medal 1991 for the Carlton Baths and Community Centre. Projects include; Spencer Street footbridge, the Robert Clark Horticultural Centre Ballarat Botanic Gardens, Observatory Gate Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, RMIT University City Campus Urban Spaces Project, Deer Park Bypass and M80 Ring Road upgrade. In 2015 he was commissioned for a major new extension to Parliament House in Spring Street and the redevelopment of the Alexander Theatre into a performing arts complex at Monash University Clayton campus.

    Catherine joined PEA in 2004, becoming an Associate in 2006 & Senior Associate in 2012. Prior to joining PEA Catherine practiced architecture in Tokyo & Hobart, and exhibition design at the National Gallery of Victoria.  Her experience ranges across type and scale of project; including master planning, institutional & educational architecture, commercial interiors and exhibition design.

    Catherine enjoys engaging with projects from a city scale to a very fine level of detail.  She has extensive experience in the front end of the design process being highly adept at managing multiple stakeholders, interpreting aspirations and translating a clients briefing requirements into a cohesive and elegant design solution.

    Catherine is actively involved in architectural education and has taught Masters of Architecture design studios in the MSD at The University of Melbourne since 2006.  She is regularly an invited examiner for architecture & interior architecture programs at UTAS, UoM, RMIT & Monash University.

    Sean commenced work with the practice over 10 years ago as a first year architecture student at RMIT University. He has worked on a diverse range of projects during this time and has developed a good working rapport with many of our ongoing clients. Sean has a close working relationship with Peter Elliott, typically working closely together during the development of concepts at the early phase of a project. He has also been involved in many of the firms continuing Master Planning commissions with Melbourne Grammar School and RMIT University among others. He has an enthusiastic interest in graphic communication and wayfinding strategies. He has designed and developed the practice website and is responsible for much of the promotional and presentation material produced by the office.

    Jonathan joined the practice in 2010 bringing with him expertise in the documentation and administration of intricate residential and institutional buildings, having 9 years experience with a wide range of building types in Melbourne. Jonathan’s significant exposure and interest in projects involving heritage and existing building fabrics are of value to this practice, which has a strong reputation with managing complex proposals. Jonathan’s involvement in the office has included leading the documentation for projects such as the Carlton Baths and Family Resource Centre, the International House Centre for Living and Learning (UoM), and the final phase of the William Buckley Bridge.

    Julian joined Peter Elliott Architecture + Urban Design in 2015, having previously worked in the practice 2009 – 2012. His ten years’ professional experience is primarily in educational and residential architecture. Julian’s interest in the adaptive re-use of existing buildings and the contribution of architecture to the public realm match the practice’s ongoing work and ethos.

    Julian is typically involved in the latter stages of projects, from design development through to construction administration, where his technical knowledge and rigorous approach are of benefit. Julian is committed to the delivery of high quality buildings that respond to clients’ needs, and enjoys the collaborative team work that this process demands.

    Julian studied Architecture at The University of Melbourne, where he now tutors construction subjects within the Architecture program.

    Daniel commenced work with Peter Elliott Architects over 10 years ago whilst studying architecture at RMIT University. In this time he has worked on a diverse range of projects in the practice that vary in typology, scale and complexity.

    His experience covers all aspects of design and phases of a project. Daniel’s technical knowledge and understanding of building construction are invaluable during the latter stages of a project.

    Daniel enjoys the challenges of leading a multidisciplinary project team and has most recently worked on a number of complex theatre projects within the practice requiring innovative design solutions to achieve a successful project outcome.

     Juliet joined Peter Elliott Architects in 2007 whilst studying at RMIT University where she completed a Bachelor of Architectural Design in 2008 and Master of Architecture in 2011.

    Juliet has been involved in a diverse range of projects throughout her time at the practice, including built works and Infrastructure and Master Planning commissions.

    Juliet enjoys the challenge of developing clear and innovative graphic communication across all project phases, which has led her to be involved in much of the practices publications.

    Her understanding of interior concepts and product knowledge has led her to be central to the design development phase of numerous projects.

    Juliet is currently working on a varied range of projects across all project stages.

    Shigeru joined Peter Elliott Architects in 2012 during his fourth year of university. Since arriving in Melbourne in 2009, he has completed his Bachelor and Masters of architectural studies at Monash University and immersed in the architectural and design culture of Melbourne. He participates broadly from concept stage to documentation for various projects in the office. Recently Shigeru has worked on the delivery of documentation for Trinity College Pathway School. He has experience working for Go Hasegsawa (Japan) and CPG Corporation (Singapore) prior to Peter Elliott Architects, and values working with and in a cross-cultural environment and people.

    Hosna joined Peter Elliott Architects as a fourth year Architecture student and is currently working as a Graduate in the practice. Hosna’s background in Visual Arts and Photography has contributed to her diverse role in the practice, particularly with graphic communication of work. Hosna works closely with senior architects during concept and design development, primarily assisting with the illustration and communication of design ideas. This has led to considerable experience during project commencement phases and exposure to several types of projects varying in scope and complexity. Her role involves providing drafting support across all design phases, assembling graphic reports and presentations, preparing submissions and generating the practice’s promotional material.

    Hosna also occasionally partakes in university review panels and recently took part in a mentorship program at Monash University aiming to assist students transitioning from studies to post-graduate working life.
