Melbourne Convention Centre Promenade - Northbank Project 6
Status: construction due to commence September 2011
Location: Spencer Street Melbourne
Client: City of Melbourne & DSE
Northbank Promenade is a shared pedestrian and cycling pathway connecting Birrarung Marr to Docklands with numerous links back into the city. The promenade is being progressively upgraded as part of a larger urban plan to improve the north bank of the River Yarra.
The section of promenade west of Spencer Street to Docklands is the subject of several new upgrade projects. This includes the newly expanded promenade at the World Trade Centre, the new pedestrian bridge linking the Melbourne Convention Centre to the Mission to Seaman Plaza and a planned new underpass at Charles Grimes Bridge to connect the north wharf to Docklands.
From an urban design point of view the intention is to improve this as a safe public space with a more generous and clearly legible shared pedestrian and cycle way.
